Anyone who wears cowboy boots might not give a second thought as to whether they are best suited to a particular location or event. Just as others would not think too long and hard as to whether the shoes, sandals, or trainers are the most appropriate for them, those wearing cowboy boots will do likewise.
However, those steeped in the culture of all-things western or cowboy related will tell you that there are indeed certain “wheres and whens” as to when cowboys are the most suitable footwear. That is not to say these are the only places and times they should be worn, but rather these are when cowboy boots are the perfect footwear for those who love wearing them.
To that end, we are going to outline a few examples of where and when cowboy boots are ideal, and to possibly prevent some unwelcome embarrassment or rush home to change, a few scenarios when cowboy boots are certainly not recommended.
Where And When Cowboy Boots Are Ideal Footwear
- Cowboy Events: It should be no surprise that this is the first and most obvious. Any event concerning cowboys or wild west culture is a prime opportunity to wear cowboy boots. In fact, it is expected. The specific events are too many to mention but they include rodeos, cowboy racing, and horse shows.
- Road Trips: Anyone who is planning to go on road trips, especially any which take you well out of the city and into less “refined” surroundings, might find a pair of cowboy boots useful. This will be especially so if you park up and need to walk on dusty, barren terrain.
- Country & Western Dancing/Music Events: Another popular pastime that will see many men and women wearing cowboy boots. Even if you do not like dancing but love the music, wearing your cowboy boots will make you look and feel as though you fit right in.
- Nights Out: Beyond country and western nights, cowboy boots are also ideal for wearing for nothing more complicated than a night in the bar with your buddies or your other half. Assuming you are wearing jeans, for example, they will look as suitable as any other footwear.
- Eating Out: Whilst maybe not ideal for the top gourmet restaurants that might have a certain dress code, for most others, and especially when it is a casual meal with family or friends, your cowboy boots are more than suitable footwear.
When NOT To Wear Cowboy Boots
- Job Interview: Unless the job is cowboy related, which is unlikely, then it is never a good idea to turn up for a job interview in cowboy boots, even if the other attire you are wearing is smart. Stick with a smart pair of shoes for this one.
- Long Hikes/Backpacking: Whilst cowboy boots will invariably be comfortable they are not the best footwear for going on long hikes or backpacking walks. Wear hiking boots or robust walking shoes whilst walking, and if you insist on wearing them, put on your cowboy boots at your destination.
- Modem Dance Clubs: Apart from the fashion faux pas that arguably is created, you must be aware that most modern clubs have dance floors that are smooth and shiny. These are not suited to the heels and soles of cowboy boots meaning you are likely to feel unsteady and may even slip over.
