The Top 10 Must-Read Personal Development Blogs of 2007

In no particular order, here are my favorite personal development blogs for the year 2007. Some are new, some are old, some have moved me, some inspired me and all have taught me. They’ve added to my life this year, and I hope they’ll do the same for you in 2008.

43 Folders

The classic productivity site got a beautiful face-lift this year and expanded its list of writers. Not to be missed for the geeky-productivity-GTD crowd.

Christine Kane

Singer, songwriter, and courageous motivational teacher. An impressive mix, yes? She says ‘be creative, be conscious and be courageous’ on her site – and I believe her, because everything in her writing tells me she walks the talk. When I grow up, I want to write like Christine Kane.

IttyBiz

I’m stretching the list a little here with IttyBiz only because I love it so much. Less of a personal development blog and more of a blog to help you with your small business, IttyBiz has good stuff nonetheless. But it was really the writing that captured me, Naomi is smart and funny and makes the complicated sound fun and easy.

Lifehacker

I’m a real geek, and I love the way technology can simplify our lives and make us more productive. But sometimes things just don’t work the way we want them to, and that’s when I turn to Lifehacker; for hacking life with tech made easy.

Liz Strauss at Successful Blog

Her domain name is successful-blog.com, but Liz doesn’t just write about making it as a successful blogger, she also writes beautiful posts about how to lead a successful life. I love the way Liz always responds to her comments and comes across so real in her writing.

Steve Pavlina’s Personal Development Blog

What’s a favorite personal development blog list without The Steve? Still makes me think, kicks me in the ass and weirds me out from time to time (in a good way).

Matt’s Idea Blog

Matt’s productivity blog is brimming with good ideas and a wealth of tips. Matt’s recently broke his leg, so drop him a note and let him take it easy for a while – we’ll still be here waiting for his posts after he gets well :)

Wake Up Tiger

Wake Up Tiger’s posts don’t have much; usually just a picture with a few lines of text. But the tiger says so much with oh so little, he never fails to lift my spirit. A must-read for anyone.

Unclutterer

I love my environments to be clean, elegant and simple. Unclutterer inspires me to do that with simple tips and deliciously Zen examples. Love!

Zen Habits

This blog swooped out of nowhere and became big in a short time for a good reason. Ever felt like you had too much on your hands? I have, and Zen Habits is a great blog to read for anyone who wants to simplify and streamline their life.

I Can Has Cheezburger?

Okay, this makes 11 instead of 10, but I Can Has Cheezburger isn’t a personal development blog – you probably guessed from the name. But cute cats and funny captions make me happy – and I think it’ll make you happy too :D

In the spirit of de-cluttering my life, I’ve cut down on a lot of my RSS subscriptions, so I might have missed some great blogs along the way. Which were your favorite personal development blogs of 2007?

  1. I agree that a key to self management is self esteem. I would offer that true life inspiration happens when you find something you love to do and make it a part of your everyday experience. Here’s an exercise:

    1. Write down 10 things you love to do or that bring you the most joy. I call this the “You List”

    2. Then record how many times a day you do one of the things on your list

    3. Give each day of the week a rating from 1-10

    4. Your best day usually comes out to be the day you do the most things on your “You List”

I can easily relate to the first part of the story, in the past I was one of those people pretending you have done something and then be very uncomfortable when someone asks more detailed questions.
It is not a good feeling and being upfront from the beginning really saves you the embarassment later.
