Day 2

We woke up bright and early the next day at around 5:30AM, thanks to the roosters crowing outside – lucky we had an early night the day before! Just as well too, I walked out after 6 and it was a beautiful dawn. The view outside our little hut was just gorgeous and it was so cold I could see my breath – loved it!

Morning in Chiang Dao Nest was as peaceful and quiet as the night before. Breakfast was superb, I had the super-healthy and delicious fruit pancakes; which was crepes wrapped around banana and pineapples slices topped with honey. Spend a week here eating their fabulous food and breathing the crisp mountain air and I guarantee you’ll be brimming with health before long!

Later that day in the afternoon we decided to go visit the nearby Chiang Dao Caves, which was a short 20 minute walk away from Nest 1. On our way there, we passed by Chiang Dao Nest 2, which was nestled on the foot of a mountain. We didn’t have the Thai food there that Adrianna raved about, but Nest 2 didn’t look as appealing to us to stay as Nest 1. Being at the foot of a mountain, it didn’t have the same beautiful views or looked as well-kept.

It was my first visit inside a cave and it was amazing. A guide brought us inside the unlit caves with only an oil lamp by his side. With just the 3 of us, a circle of wavering light and dark shadowy roofs above us, it was a rich singular experience. At some places we had to crawl through little holes to get to the other side, and at others walk up and down steep, slightly dank steps.

Afterwards, we headed back to laze around our huts, and caught a quick nap while waiting for dinner, which was another treat. I was getting used to the slow, quiet pace of life and enjoying myself tremendously.
