When Honesty Isn’t Urgent

Wed, Apr 4, 2007

General

How ironic that I was just blogging about the difference between the urgent and the important.

The important often doesn’t act on you, you have to act on it.

Sometimes it’s that gap you need to bridge between you and your father.

Sometimes it’s that talk you never thought you could have with your brother.

Sometimes it’s returning to old places, seeing old faces, and not being exactly sure how it would go.

Sometimes it’s telling a friend what you think she needs to hear, even when you don’t feel like saying it.

Hmm.. and we usually don’t see it’s importance until it becomes urgent (when cracks are too deep to mend). The price tag that comes with it is usually dear too.

Short, but very good post Alvin!

It’s interesting, because people tend to be less than truthful with the people they care about, to keep from hurting their feelings. In the short term, it’s a lot easier to be nice than honest. However, in the grand scheme of things, it pays to be honest.

I’ve changed the title of this post, because Kloudiia, you nailed it exactly on the head. Honesty isn’t always urgent, the challenge is when you have to act on it even when it doesn’t act on you.

Hmm… the power of a comment… the power of an interactive blog!

Thanks for listening, Alvin. (though that wasn’t my intention ha!)
