Alvin,
Thanks for your insight. Your article is well written. I especially like the 4 questions to ask yourself. Since we all have limiting beliefs, it is such a nice reminder to have ways to begin to change and release our limiting beliefs.

JM Eagle, it might help you to use the International Coach Federation's <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.coachfederation.org/ICF/For+Coaching+Clients/Find+a+Coach/Coach+Referral+Service/" rel="nofollow">Coach Referral Service</a>.

Pete, thanks for chipping in! A long but very useful post there, brought me some insight too.

Thanks Matt! I hope you've noticed...I've gotten rid of the buggy spam code plugin now, commenting will become waaaay easier from now on :)

Great article, Alvin. This line really hit home:

"it was the belief behind the problem that was the real problem"

For my personal productivity clients, this means a) if they're not ready to change, I can do little, b) this change is very valuable. In my case, it's why I don't take before and after pictures - you can't take a picture of mental changes!

Thanks.

What's a TRUE life coach anyway? The mark of a good coach does involve good listening skills. I'm going to assume that JM Eagle is more interested in taking ACTIONs rather than just talk about things. Well, in this case a coach usually will work with the choices you are entitled to; including choosing to stay depressed or doing something about it. One presupposition I hold while coaching is that my client is the expert, not me. I help clarify the choices you make and challenge you to champion yourself by holding you to a higher standard.

You want to overcome depression. What are you doing about it? You want to change your life. What are you doing differently to bring about the changes that you want? Perhaps talking to a coach can help you gain insight.

In my experience, people come into coaching to do one of 2 things: firstly, to get more of the same faster with less effort; secondly, to allow for things to be different in a better way.

By the way, someone who just sits and listens to you about your problem sounds more like a counsellor than a coach. Even counsellors nowadays take a more proactive approach holding their clients in higher positive regards.

You can drop us an email and we can further discuss how we can help you help yourself. Among the modalities coaching take today, it's gone beyond the face-to-face and the phone conversation to include email, teleseminar, online workshop and so on.

Good luck!!

Hello, how do I go about finding a true life coach in my area that can truly help me overcome my depression and change my life. Not someone who just sits and listens to you talk about your problems but helps you to change and overcome them. Thank you for your time.
