My Hero’s Journey Part 3

The Hero's Journey

First week of work and it’s been busy, busy. Mostly because I’m picking up a new software (Adobe Aftereffects), and also because my company had their open house this week for their new office.

The open house was fun, and I even got a chance to practice the rapport building visualization on our landlord!

This is a frame-grab of their new logo:

They’re a post-production company that does TV, video, motion graphics and 3d animation. I’m the 3d animator and aspiring motion graphics artist there now.

Going back to a full-time job, here are 4 methods I’ve found that helped me focus on my work and be productive:

1) No MSN. No instant messaging software of any kind. They really take up time! Now when I reach home and start work on Life Coaches Blog with my MSN open I realize just how much a sudden message can break the workflow.

2) Make it hard to login. When I login to my email or Bloglines, I always log out, just so to make it harder to check for new stuff every 5 minutes.

3) Surfing the net is not a break! Get out and move! Taking a break from the computer at the computer is not a break. Get out, stretch, walk around, take those eyes away from the screen. Helps refresh myself loads.

4) Have a time-goal: finish this step by this time. Helps keep the motivation pumping when I set mini goals for myself. I break up the project into mini-steps, and then put mini-deadlines on the clock to finish a step.

that is so true. you totally reminded me of what msn does, it really breaks your concentration and in order to reach an optimum performance level per amount of time spent, one should focus entirely on the task on hand.
