Personal Development

Have you ever blamed everything and everyone for bad things that happened to you?

Are you incapable of holding yourself in higher esteem?

Do you bad-mouth yourself?

“I’m not experienced enough.”
“I’m too old.”
“I don’t have the time”
“I can’t remember….”
“I can’t do it….”
“Shit!!”
“It’s not MY fault!!”
“I’m an idiot!!”

Are you guilty of subjecting to be antagonized by the words and actions of others?

“You’re not smart enough.”
“You don’t have the necessary credential.”
“Stupid piece of useless junk!!”
Someone slams the door right in your face.
It rained on your parade.

I can go on…. And I really shouldn’t. You all know perfectly well what I am saying…or rather what that irritating little voice inside your head keeps telling you at times when you really should be saying otherwise.

Here’s a sure-fire way to curb those nonsense inside your head:

No matter who’s in your face or what happens to you, use Pete’s Mantra #1

Use it often enough and it becomes a habit. A habit is a habit IS a habit, and a good one to have I might add. A habit is nothing more than a conditioned response to a similar set of stimulus. So whatever’s facing you and screwing up the good times that is your birthright, tell ‘em that:

“You do not have PERMISSION to make me CHOOSE to FEEL bad!!”

Write it up and pin it on the wall, magnet it to fridge, tag it to everything you have, and more importantly, etch it to the very core of your being.

If the negative-voice-inside-your-head is too loud…use NLP’s co-founder Richard Bandler’s Mantra #1 to drown it out, then apply Pete’s Mantra #1.

Bandler’s (in)famous Mantra #1:

    SHUT THE FUCK UP!!

Whenever you find yourself drifting to something disempowering in your thoughts or find doubts, fear, stupidity, procrastination and their creepy fingers extending themselves into your consciousness, use Pete’s Mantra #2 (modified from the Silva Mind Control method):

CancelCancelCancel…you gotta be smarter than that!!

Care to share some of your personal mantra?

Watch out for my next: Feeling good for no good reason.
Following that: Prognosticating Procrastination

    3 cheers to Pete!!!

Very interesting and practical (especially Ri chard Bandler’s Mantra)… “Tried” and it worked!

  2. Alvin Says:

Haha oh my God, Pete, you really did use the ‘F’ word! Looks like the floodgates are opening now ;)

This article is so you. I could gush but then you’d know what I mean already. Ok, let me share some of my own personal mantras that have personally helped me out quite a bit:

    “Why not?”

    “Test it out!”

“Just whack lah (translation: Just do it)”

  3. Taylm Says:

The word ‘F’ is used to trigger an immediate feeling that YOU are IN CONTROL and possess the AUTHORITY

Could change the word ‘F’ to ‘B’, guess it wouldn’t make much a diff? Would it? :P

    My personal mantra

“Shut your bloody gap! You have been blabbering bullshit all day long!”

  4. Yezhong Says:

Yea yea. The cat is out of the bag…at last! :P

I Love Mantra #1! Cool down that silly voice in the head.

And ooo… Mantra #2, it has been my humor anchor since the very 1st day I heard it. Jus can’t help it…but smile or laugh everytime I hear it.

(Keep a lookout for your physiological change when you use the mantra)

  5. Alvin Says:

By the way Pete, you wouldn’t happen to be channeling the spirit of Wile E. Coyote with your post title, would you?

  6. Pete Says:

Right on!! Remember in the Roadrunner Show, they class Coyote and Roadrunner some latin scientific name of some weird genus that they belong to?

So among the nonsense that I spout during dinner on Sunday, you did pick some things up, don’t you?

Remnants of the Roadrunner Show I used to enjoy so much when I was a kid… not exactly ’spirit’ of Wile E Coyote. That would be another post all in itself!!

In any case, the many of you who emailed me about Personal Mantras (see post) and using them as pattern interrupts as Negativity Interruptus (see post), thank you very much!!
